Kabanga College of Health and Allied Sciences (formerly Kabanga School of Nursing) was established by the Sisters of Medical Missionaries of Mary (MMM) congregation in 1960 under the Catholic Diocese of Kigoma. The school was recognized by the Ministry of Health in 1964 as a Grade 'B' Training School of Nurses.

From 1964 to 1984, the college offered a three-year course in General Nursing. In 1985, a one-year course in Midwifery was established by Sr. Opportuna Cyprian. Graduates became Grade B Nurse/Midwives, registered by the Tanzania Nurses and Midwifery Council (TNMC).

Between 1990 and 2000, the Ministry of Health upgraded all Schools of Nursing to Grade 'A' status. Kabanga began offering the Diploma course in Nursing in 2004. The college is now owned by The Catholic Diocese of Kigoma and offers three diploma programs: Nursing and Midwifery, Clinical Medicine, and Medical Laboratory Sciences. We remain committed to producing competent healthcare professionals with moral and ethical values responsive to societal needs.

Kabanga College of Health and Allied Sciences is duly registered and accredited by the following regulatory bodies:

• ✦ TNMC — Tanzania Nurses and Midwives Council (Registration No: 03-015)

📋 General Requirements (All Courses)

• Form IV Certificate with minimum D grade in: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
• Added advantage: Pass at D grade in English Language or Mathematics
• Tanzanian citizen or valid study permit

🩺 Diploma in Clinical Medicine

• Form IV: Minimum D grade in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
• For In-Service Upgraders: Technician certificate in Clinical Medicine with 2+ years work experience

👩‍⚕️ Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery

• Form IV: Minimum D grade in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
• For Upgraders: NTA Level 5 Nursing Certificate with D pass in Biology, Chemistry or Physics + 2+ years work experience

🔬 Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences

• Form IV: Minimum D grade in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

Kabanga College of Health and Allied Sciences Students Organization (KACOHASO) is a student-led organization established with the primary purpose of representing and promoting the interests and welfare of all students within the college.

The organization also serves as a platform for students to gain practical experience in social, political, economic, and academic matters through active participation, leadership, and engagement. Students are guided through advisory support provided by the college management via the Warden's Office.

KACOHASO operates with a high degree of autonomy, and its activities are managed and executed by students themselves.

Leadership & Elections

KACOHASO leaders are elected annually through General Students' Elections, typically conducted in April each year. All registered students have the right to vote and be voted for.

Elective Positions: President • Vice President • Prime Minister • Appointed Ministers

Elections are coordinated by an independent KACOHASO Electoral Committee (KEC) consisting of one representative from each class.

Membership

Chaplaincy Services

Kabanga College, in collaboration with Kabanga Referral Hospital, operates a joint Chaplaincy that provides spiritual services to students, staff, and patients. The Chaplaincy welcomes individuals from all religious backgrounds and offers guidance, spiritual support, and pastoral care. The office is conveniently located near the Chapel and remains open to all who seek spiritual assistance.

Counselling Services

The college places great importance on the mental, emotional, and social wellbeing of its students. Professional and confidential counselling is available on campus through the Chaplaincy for academic challenges, personal and family issues, social and emotional concerns, and career-related matters.

All counselling services are provided in a friendly, supportive, and professional environment with continuous follow-up where necessary to ensure long-term wellbeing and support.

Kabanga College of Health and Allied Sciences is closely associated with Kabanga Referral Hospital, a regional-level healthcare facility that provides comprehensive clinical and health services. This partnership ensures that students receive quality medical attention whenever needed.

Within the college premises, there is a Sick Bay that provides immediate first aid and basic medical assistance to students. The college has qualified medical personnel who attend to students' health concerns and provide guidance on maintaining good health during their studies.

Health Insurance (NHIF)

To ensure easy access to medical services, all students are enrolled in a health insurance scheme under the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) at the beginning of each academic year. Students who already have private health insurance can present valid proof of coverage to the Warden upon registration.

Medical Services Access

• Students and staff are entitled to medical services including hospitalization upon presentation of valid medical cards
• NHIF provides coverage at Kabanga Referral Hospital and accredited healthcare facilities across Tanzania
• NHIF cards are issued once and remain valid for entire duration of study
• Annual activation required at start of each academic year
• Note: Insurance covers the student only and does not extend to dependents
